Our advice for ordering your silk ribbons

When it comes to choosing the silk ribbons for your wedding or event we understand how important it is to get it right, so we hope this guide offers some help, but please just drop us an email if you are unsure of anything or need some further guidance, we are always more than happy to help.

Fabrics

We offer a selection of different silk fabrics, all of the finest quality from our trusted silk specialist. Each of the silk types we work with have been chosen for their feel and draping qualities. Our main silk used is Habotai, this is a light-weight, smooth silk. It looks romantic and soft to touch. We use velvet for a super luxurious, heavier ribbon, this is particularly popular for autumn and winter weddings. Noil silk feels almost like linen, with a slubby texture, again a good option for autumn and winter. We also have a few different lightweight but textured silks such as Crepe de Chine, Gauze, Georgette, Crinkle silk - these look equally lovely on their own for a more etherial look or styled with a silk like habotai for added depth.

Sizing

Most of our ribbons, unless stated otherwise, are 1.5m in length per reel. This is the perfect length for tying around a bouquet for example. If you, or your wedding supplier, require shorter lengths a 1.5m long reel can easily be cut to size using a good, sharp pair of scissors or rotary cutter. If you are looking for a longer length we may be able to help with a custom order, the maximum length we can offer in one piece is 3m, please get in touch to enquire .

In terms of widths, most ribbons are available in 2cm, 5cm or 8cm, we also do a wide sash ribbon of 15cm which is perfect for cake styling. We often get asked what ribbons should someone use for a bridal bouquet, from our own floristry experience we find that using a combination of two widths works best to create a luxurious bouquet wrap, such as a 5cm and an 8cm.

Colours

As our silk ribbons are dyed using natural plant dyes we find that all the colours actually work well together - none seem to clash as they might with synthetic dyes. We often find that if styling a wedding or event, choosing a couple of coordinating colours works well.

We try to photograph the ribbons as accurately as possible, but please bear in mind different screens are calibrated differently and therefore you may see some difference in shade from your device to the actual ribbons. We offer sample cards if you need a little more help deciding on colours - order here.

Stock levels

During busy periods some ribbons may sell out on the website, but we can often remake a particular colour fairly quickly so it’s always worth dropping us an email to see if we can help.
